Turin-based startup Intoino (www.intoino.com) has won the Global Startup Challenge at the Webit Congress 2013 (Instanbul , November 6th-7th), prestigious international event aiming to promote, support and connect the digital, tech and telco markets in the EMEA area (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
At Webit Congress, the ICE – society for the abroad promotion and internationalization of Italian enterprises with the support of Ministry of Economic Development, has selected an Italian division to which Intoino has joined with other 9 startups (Besharp, Ekuota, ModeFinance, Ro Technology, Uimbo, Vividaweb, Wanderio, Youmove.me).
It represents the first event to promote abroad innovative Italian startups, supported in a coordinated and massive way by the two governmental institutions in order to give concrete application to what was planned in “Decreto crescita Bis” of December 2012.
During the contest Intoino has overcome the competition of more than 800 startups coming from all over the world. Born in 2012 during the Turin Startup Weekend and currently incubated by TreataBit (www.treatabit.com), the program created in order to support the digital startups located in I3P (Incubator of Innovative Enterprises of Politecnico di Torino- www.i3p.it ), Intoino is a young entrepreneurship based on innovation market of “maker movement”. The startup developed a “Lego-based” kit through which it is possible to create some smart and web-connected electronical devices, without being an expert of electronics and informatics. For instance it could be possible to design a system able to irrigate plants automatically while we are on holiday, or a tool sending an alert information to a smartphone when a door is opened.
At the Webit Congress more than 8.000 people from more than 100 countries were joining the event. However, the Italian country was the only one with a special reserved division and dedicated stand. The Instanbul-based ICE Agency has informed some Italian and Turkish banks, venture capital societies and business angels about the presence of the Italian startups at the congress.
