Unicorn Mobility and Pirelli join forces for electric mobility

Pirelli, one of the world’s leading tyre manufacturers, and UM Technologies, an innovative company in the sustainable mobility sector and owner of the Unicorn Mobility commercial brand, are joining forces to inaugurate a new phase of Cycl-e around, the corporate e-bike sharing project launched by Pirelli in 2021. This collaboration will give rise to a service, offered by UMT, that will be even broader both geographically and in terms of offerings, including connected vehicles, from e-bikes to microcars, to meet the needs of companies, accommodation facilities, residential complexes and student residences and to respond to the growing demand for solutions linked to green mobility.

Pirelli will provide UMT with the strength of its brand and knowledge of the more than 160 markets where it currently operates globally, while UMT, having acquired the activities of Cycl-e Around, will exploit its expertise in the field of new mobility and its network of international partners to offer an even more efficient and widespread service.

Gianluca Iorio, co-founder of Unicorn Mobility, told Startupbusiness commenting on the deal that saw his startup close the deal to acquire the Cycl-e around business: “We are proud of this collaboration with Pirelli, which we believe will allow us to rapidly grow our volumes and increase our market penetration in the corporate business sector. Unicorn Mobility was created with the aim of making a significant contribution to decarbonisation by helping hotels, companies and private communities in general to improve their mobility and that of their employees and guests. We aim to make sustainable mobility the norm in micro communities by offering state-of-the-art solutions that combine technology, efficiency and sustainability. To date, the start-up already boasts a network of 250 partners spread across Italy, Greece, Spain and Portugal, as well as the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. Our total fleet counts more than two thousand light electric vehicles, which have travelled a total of more than 200 thousand kilometres, which can be quantified in a saving of 37 thousand kilos of CO2 . We would like to thank the Pirelli team for this operation, in which we recognised from the outset a reliable and willing partner, perfectly in tune with our idea of fostering, starting with transport and business, progress towards energy transition and a more environmentally aware society’.

“This collaboration represents a further step towards alternative forms of mobility to traditional means of transport. Thanks to the synergy between the strength of our brand, known all over the world, and UMT’s specialisation in light electric mobility, users will have at their disposal an advanced and accessible service, while at the same time promoting environmental awareness and active living,” said Giovanni Tronchetti Provera, executive vice president sustainability, new mobility and motorsport Pirelli, in a note.
