Terna and Duferco invest in Usii’s drones

Wesii, an Italian company specialising in remote sensing activities using drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, announces that it has completed an investment round of 2.8 million euros, through a joint capital increase by Terna Forward, a company of the Terna Group, and DXT Commodities, a company of the Duferco Group. Wesii was born in Chiavari in 2016 when Mauro Migliazzi decided to return to Italy to start his own business, which became a shared path with the Chiavari sporttech incubator Wylab. Wesii, in fact, was the first startup to become part of its ecosystem. The first application of Wesii technology was designed for the sports market: “The first tests were done with the FIGC on the Coverciano pitches, then we flew to Marassi for Sampdoria and Genoa to analyse the state of the ground,” says Migliazzi in a note. ” Soon, the potential of Wesii technology and its applications also captured the attention of markets other than sports. The energy sector, in particular, has taken on an increasingly decisive role over time and today Wesii is active in the market in inspection and remote sensing services in the renewable energy market.

Different fields of application

Traditional inspection practices of photovoltaic, wind or power lines involve ground inspections that can be time-consuming and therefore very expensive. Wesii specializes in the use of drones and planes for the analysis of renewable plants and electrical infrastructures in order to detect and geolocate any anomalies. The injection of resources from Terna Forward and DXT Commodities will allow the Chiavari-based startup to grow further. “Thanks to the capital increase, we will be able to invest even more significantly in innovation. Our goal is to increase our market share, we plan to increase our presence on large plants in Europe and in Italy on smaller plants, roofs to be clear. It is a very widespread market that we are going to reach thanks to a semi-automatic sales system. We will be the first in the world to reach this type of target,” adds Migliazzi. Federico Smanio, CEO of Wylab says: “We must give credit to the founder Mauro Migliazzi for his extraordinary entrepreneurial ability, he has put together a great team around a very innovative vision. With Wylab we worked closely with him, I always talked about it to our members with enthusiasm, there were many elements that made me think of another Wyscout. Sport makes it possible to experiment with technologies that can then be applied in other sectors, Wesii is an example. Thanks to Mauro and Wylab, Chiavari has once again established itself as a center of excellence for innovation.” (image from Wesii’s website)
