Recharging for electric cars, Gasgas invests in Southern Italy

In Europe, although at different speeds between the various countries and the various areas of the individual countries, registrations of electric cars are growing and the number of charging stations in the territory is increasing. In Italy, the number of charging points for public use installed at the end of 2023 exceeded 50 thousand, according to data collected by the fifth edition of the study Charging infrastructures for public use in Italy carried out by Motus-E, which counts how in 2023 they were installed 13,906 new charging points, including 3,450 in the last quarter. In this context, the new announcement by Gasgas is also inserted, which makes it known that it has reached a portfolio of 188 charging points in Sicily and 96 in Puglia.

«Our South it is the country’s tourist engine, especially during the summer, and the increase in charging stations in these areas is certainly excellent news. To date, the concentration of charging stations for electric vehicles throughout Southern Italy and the Islands accounts for 23% of total Italian stations (source: Motus-E, February 2024) and this figure puts us in front of a great opportunity that Gasgas has decided to seize. Let’s not forget, then, that the benefits brought by the spread of charging points always touch on multiple aspects: first of all, they encourage the use of electric cars that contribute to the protection of the environment. In addition, a large presence of supply points offers the territories the opportunity to adequately accommodate ev-drivers who arrive from all over Europe and often give up certain destinations, precisely because of the lack of charging stations. Just to get an idea, let’s remember that in 2023 in Puglia there were more than 16.3 million tourist presences (source: Report of the Pugliapromozione Observatory on Istat/Spot data), while Sicily exceeded 16.4 million (source: Sicily Region Presidency Office),” Alessandro Vigilanti, co-founder and CEO of Gasgas, said in a note.

The spread of charging stations is the answer to the so-called range anxiety, a definition that describes range anxiety, i.e. the worry or fear that the vehicle’s battery will run out before reaching the destination or a charging station. This is a very strong deterrent to the adoption of electric cars. However, this anxiety is now completely unjustified, considering the significant increase in autonomy of new generation vehicles and that now in 86% of the national territory it is possible to find a charging point within a radius of 10 kilometers according to the Motus-E report.

Sustainability

Gasgas pursues an expansion strategy that has allowed it to have about 1400 charging points in 17 Italian regions in its portfolio, with the aim of reaching 10 thousand by 2030. “We are convinced that our mission is not only a matter of business, but also a precise choice of field regarding an energy transition that is no longer optional,” says Stefania Menguzzato, general manager of the company. To facilitate this transition, Gasgas is also a real partner by offering local authorities turnkey projects and covering 100% of the investment necessary for the construction of the infrastructure. We also offer charging solutions of various power according to the needs of traffic and location, all powered by 100% renewable energy sources.”

The transition to electric mobility is an opportunity for industrial revival for our country as well as an indispensable tool in order to decarbonise transport and reduce the levels of fine particles in the air we breathe. Also going in this direction is the series of state incentives, still awaiting the implementing decree, which will introduce new Ecobonuses for the purchase of low-emission vehicles and which will particularly favor the medium-low income groups. “The scrapping of obsolete and highly polluting cars, together with the spread of electric vehicles, represent an important element for the ecological transition and environmental protection. For this reason, the work of players such as Gasgas, who are working on the spread of charging stations in a strategic and widespread manner in the country, will be a fundamental step in promoting this transformation that will bring benefits to all,” concludes Menguzzato.
