The start-up specialising in the development of sustainable solutions for the composites industry Nlcomp announces that it has completed the closing of an investment round of over EUR 600,000.
The capital increase was underwritten by Samer & Co Shipping as lead investor and by the Zero accelerator, the dedicated cleantech programme part of CDP Venture Capital’s National Accelerator Network, with a follow-on investment in which CDP Venture Capital and Zest participated.
Founded in 2020, Nlcomp develops advanced materials such as rComposite, a recyclable composite material that has already obtained the DNV statement for verification of recycled content and recyclability according to ISO 14021:2021.
The company took its first steps in the nautical sector with the Ecoracer projects and with collaborations with European companies such as Cantiere del Pardo and Devoti Sailing, and today it is working to enter the wind energy sector where it is collaborating with the start-up Windcity to develop vertical wind turbine blades, with the aim of proposing cutting-edge solutions to reduce the environmental impact in various industries where fibreglass is used.
In relation to the capital increase carried out by Samer & Co Shipping, the company’s president, Enrico Samer, said in a note: “We have been present in the company since it was established: our initial support for the start-up has turned into a substantial investment, with the aim of being directly involved in a strategic industrial sector, while at the same time giving value to a team of young people who have been able to commit themselves and progress over time. Nlcomp’s commitment reflects the values of Samer & Co Shipping and represents substantial added value for the Samer Group”.
“We are very pleased with this follow-on in Nlcomp, which we have already selected in the acceleration pathway of Zero. This solution can concretely contribute to promoting sustainable solutions in composite materials applied to different markets. Contributing to Nlcomp’s growth path will be a wonderful journey together with Zest and the other Zero partners,’ adds Stefano Molino, senior partner and head of CDP Venture Capital’s Accelerators Fund.
“This capital increase represents a milestone in our growth path,” says Fabio Bignolini, CEO and co-founder of Nlcomp (pictured here with the team). “Thanks to the support of high-profile investors such as Samer & Co Shipping, CDP Venture Capital, and Zest, we will be able to structure our team, open our first production site, and accelerate the development of new sustainable projects.”
The funds raised as part of this capital increase, together with the EUR 504,000 loan obtained from Invitalia under the Smart&Start programme, will be used to: launch rComposite’s production at a new industrial site; expand international collaborations in the nautical sectors; and accelerate research and development in new industrial sectors starting with wind power.
