Mission: to innovate sustainably through design
Designtech is distinguished by its mission to combine creativity, technology and sustainability, turning global challenges into opportunities for innovation. The company believes that the way we design cities, products and technologies will determine the future of humanity.
The CoFactory hub, located in Milan’s Certosa District, hybridises coworking spaces with a light industrial floor equipped with digital fabrication technologies where spaces and services are available to support start-ups, companies and professionals in the development of innovative solutions and products. Thanks to advanced 3D printers and technical consultancy, CoFactory enables ideas to be transformed into finished products in an agile, fast and sustainable manner, promoting the adoption of technologies such as additive manufacturing and computational design.
Community of excellence
Start-ups, scaleups and companies that are part of the Designtech community include names such as Roboze and Caracol, Italian scaleups that are conquering international markets with their additive manufacturing solutions. There are also companies such as Deesup, R3plica, Aura, Treddy, PuntoZero and Hi-Interiors, all focused on different aspects of design innovation. These companies have chosen to settle in the CoFactory spaces, an environment that combines offices, coworking and all the services necessary for business development, including spaces dedicated to events, conferences, presentations, meeting rooms, common areas complete with kitchen and multimedia infrastructure.
Large companies are also part of the community. These include RealStep, the real estate developer responsible for the redevelopment of the entire Milano Certosa area, and Pininfarina, which designed the CoFactory spaces. Other notable names include Garc, Fantoni, Quadrifoglio, Mangini, Ernestomeda, Würth, Zumtobel, Lombardini22, PQ Design, Furf, DI Works, Dassault Systèmes, CMS and many others, who actively contribute to creating a unique innovation ecosystem.
PwC Italia and LifeGate, also members of the community, actively participate in Designtech’s initiatives, sharing a commitment to innovation and sustainability.
Momentum design and other achievements
Designtech runs the Design Momentum acceleration programme, co-funded by the Lombardy Region, which supports eight start-ups and scaleups in the development of PoCs thanks to CoFactory’s technologies and resources.
In 2024, Designtech acquired Startupbusiness, a historic publication that has been reporting on the world of startups and innovation since 2008. After a complete makeover of its logo and website, Startupbusiness became bilingual, maintaining its reputation and editorial independence.
“We are thrilled with the success of SAFE, a milestone achieved thanks to the support of our community,” comments Ivan Tallarico, CEO and co-founder of Designtech. “This result represents the first step towards new developments and international growth. We believe that an Italian format based on innovation, design and urban regeneration can become a global model, breaking down barriers to access under one roof to skills and technologies for start-ups, SMEs and designers, fostering the adoption of new technologies in traditional sectors”.
Designtech is an innovative startup and benefit company founded by Ivan Tallarico, Patrizia Vavassori, Emil Abirascid, Domenico Greco and Alessandro De Cillis, joined as a partner by Ilario Dellanoce. Based in Milan’s Certosa District, Designtech manages spaces such as CoFactory and C.Space, promotes the Design Momentum acceleration programme and offers design and manufacturing services in ‘as-a-service’ mode.
