The interest of international investors in Italian startups and scaleups is now a well-established fact. According to the latest analysis by the Italian Tech Alliance and Growth Capital observatory, it is noted that international investors, European and not, participate in investments in Italian startups and scaleups in a percentage between 35% and 40%, to be precise it was 35% in 2023 and was 41% in 2022). Not only is the number significant but so are, and above all, the quality of the deals, take for example the most important round of the last quarter of 2023, the 100 million euro one raised by spacetech D-Orbit which sees the Japanese industrial group Marubeni as lead investor, or take one of the first rounds announced in 2024, that of Contents.com which raised 18 million dollars with the participation of Thomson Reuters Ventures, which thus gives life to its first operation in a company not only Italian but European. And the cases are numerous, for example, citing only those announced in this first part of 2024, the €3.9 million investment in Axyon AI participated by US VC Montage Ventures or the €10 million investment in Resalis Therapeutics led by the Sunstone Life Science Ventures fund which has its headquarters in Copenhagen. In light of this trend, which is destined to grow significantly given the acceleration also by CDP Venture Capital to participate in international funds, especially European, which are committed to investing in innovative Italian companies, such as Partech, which recently launched its new fund Partech Venture, which has made its first investment in the Italian startup Smartpricing in a round that has raised a total of 13 million euros , It becomes essential for Italian entrepreneurs to deepen their knowledge of everything they need to know in order to better communicate with international funds, as well as, of course, with Italian ones.
Deepen your knowledge of the tools
A good opportunity to refine this knowledge is to consider participating in theevent dedicated to this theme entitled ‘Preparing and structuring successful venture investments, exploring the VC financing instruments across the US, UK and the Italian markets’ organized by the Italian Tech Alliance itself together with Portolano Cavallo and the US law firm Wilson Sonsini. The seminar, which will take place on February 8, 2024 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Portolano Cavallo headquarters in Milan, is specifically dedicated to startups and ecosystem operators and aims to explore the new frontiers of venture capital in the Italian, US and British markets. In particular, an in-depth overview will be offered on investment instruments such as SAFE, convertible notes, debt ventures and fixed-price equity rounds, adapted to meet the financing needs during the different phases of companies’ evolution.
